Welcome Unity, new GNOME Theme :) 18 March, 2008
Unity and GNOME-Alternative hits GNOME’s trunk (gnome-themes-extras).
I will do the 2.22.0 release when andreasn will answer me if he needs some more days to complete Foxtrot Icon Theme
Anyway I will wait since Unity is in testing, so I can do some fixes if someone notices some bugs.
P.S.: We chose the name Unity over Suave since it follows the design and it means something more
(Suave got problems with translations/meanings between languages)
P.P.S.: I’ve changed a little bit the text of the inactive titlebar so should be more usable. No screenshots for the moment

This is a very old-school grey — almost Windows95-ish! Would love to see the shipping version quite a bit brighter, and perhaps a nice dark version to satisfy the increasing number of people who are enjoying sexy, dark themes.
Looks delicious!

It looks very clean and elegant, well done.
Anyway, I think you should consider to remove grip lines from the scroll bars, mockup:

Beautiful theme. It goes very well with Clearlooks metacity. I prefer the contrast as well. Thanks for the help
18 March, 2008 alle 5:58
I think the grip lines are ok
18 March, 2008 alle 7:59
I’ll see if I can get it on the psubuntu install disk we’re coming up with, alongside 4 others.

Stiloso!
Good job.
18 March, 2008 alle 11:53
Andrea, could you add the “Foglie” icon theme from Ulisse too?
18 March, 2008 alle 12:15
Yep, I would like to see foglie and a nice dark theme + green (the same green used in foglie icons) too
18 March, 2008 alle 13:35
Judging by the screenshot, this theme is quite rocking. Do I understand correctly that gnome-themes-extras are exempt from the GNOME releases and follow their own release cycle?
18 March, 2008 alle 14:37
yes
18 March, 2008 alle 14:48
Nice without the grip lines on the scrollbars.
Since this theme is derived (this is what i’ve understood) from the Clearlooks one, can we use the optional flat toolbar with it?
18 March, 2008 alle 15:06
Yes, but you have to edit manually the gtkrc
18 March, 2008 alle 16:21
I really don’t like the frame that is used around the Controls area. The over use of frames is exactly what makes KDE look too busy.
18 March, 2008 alle 17:20
A beautiful name!
18 March, 2008 alle 17:26
Ehy man, I’ve updated, but your package isn’t updated….

Update the package, NOW! I WANT IT! I NEED IT!
18 March, 2008 alle 21:19
I think I agree with frits.
I’d like to see this theme as clean as possible, but well, it’s *your* theme, not mine
18 March, 2008 alle 22:08
The text labels aren’t centered vertically, which looks kinda odd to my eyes. How about moving them a couple of pixels down?
19 March, 2008 alle 6:59
The inactive windows’ control buttons (minimise, maximise, close) look a bit weird to me—unlabelled buttons just don’t seem right. I understand that they have to be different enough to distinguish active from inactive windows, though.
How about just showing the glyph instead, without button borders?
19 March, 2008 alle 9:58
It’s a nice theme, I like it.
It seems to take out the best from your engine and it’s easy on the eyes.
btw i would suggest you, or at least pointing out, my personal mod:

i’ve changed the aspect_ratio of buttons and switched to flat toolbars. bye!

I wish I could get this theme right now. Where do I get the updated version of the gnome-themes-extra package with this theme?
19 March, 2008 alle 23:51
For those that wants a dark version, just use custom colors (taken from Darkilouche):
#888A85 for window background
#F5F5F5 for window foreground
#BABDB6 for input background
It works somewhat well for me

The unfocused buttons looks a litle strange, looks like an incomplete theme. Would be nice if there was something drawn, a fine shadow for example.
I’ts only a suggestion. The theme is nice

this theme is fantastic, but how to have it in ubuntu hardy?

Mmm.. I like the darker shade of grey and the slight curvyness. I don’t think the white of the minimise, maximise and close window icons looks nice against the grey though. Perhaps they should be darker grey like the window title text?

Thanks for your wonderful themes Andreas Cimitan !
Will you add RGBA capabilities to clearlooks themes such as unity ?

Is it possible to inscrease the height of the small blue “bar” on title bar ? (sorry for my bad english, i don’t have the word to explain what i mean…)

URGENTE!
8 May, 2008 alle 18:18
Anche io ho i monitor calibrati con il Pantone Huey, è grigio.
Sono d’accordo con i software di calibrazione… ma pure l’hardware…
8 May, 2008 alle 19:19
piccolo sfogo

I would love to see a borderless version of Unity. without the ~2px frame on the left and right. It gives Unity a “Leopard”-Look without looking like a mac-theme.

There is some similar looking project named elementary project. They have some big plans, maybe you will find it interesting

This theme rocks!
I’m using it since the release of Gnome 2.22 and I can say that I’ve found the “special one” (there are only some little imperfections under Firefox). Thanks again!

i really like this theme!!!

Is it possible to use a “default” gtk theme for any windows, and then set a specific gtk theme for a limited number of applications (such as Totem, QuodLibet, F-Spot,…) ?
I made a “screenshot” using The Gimp (the two themes extist) to illustrate my request.

I like how the two top widgets(the _[]x one and the file edit view one) blend together, was wondering for along time whether its possible to make them blend together like that except with a different colour to the base background colour (silverish grey in this case).
I’m really bad at explaining this
So When you have a window selected in other themes you have a highlight colour. Is it possible to replace the silverish grey with another glossy colour when the window is selected.
Also the applications, places and system menu’s in gnome. What I have noticed is that when you select applications for example the applications button gets highlighted with the highlight colour but the actual menu remains grey. I have yet to find a theme which sets the entire menu including the applications button the highlight colour.
In the case of unity when you click applications applications turns blue but the rest of the menu remains grey.
I thought it might be sort of cool to get the entire bar blue. Right now it the menu looks disconnected and overlapped.
Other than these nitpicky things that I think is more of a problem with gtk this theme rocks.
