Mockups for GTK+ themes 18 February, 2009
I may have some time this weekend and the next weeks to continue working on both Clearlooks and Murrine GTK+ engines.
I need ideas
This post remembers you that I’ve opened a section where you can easily submit your mockups for Murrine. Use gnome bugzilla for Clearlooks.

Hi Cimi,
Im not a skilled artist but I have a vision of a theme like dust but not in black - in white. There are many dark coloured themes out there but I think they are lacking usability. I would really *love* if a skilled theme writer/artist like you would come up with something like dust but white.

Maybe you could work on a DECENT and USABLE dark theme?!

I’m not going to say, you shouldn’t work on a dark theme but I wonder why everybody is looking for a dark theme while all the world is producing great white products….Nintendo Wii is white, many cars are sold white these days, Apple likes white…I think white is quite modern.

Dark themes don’t work with websites (Firefox and more).
That’s why no one is making dark themes.

First little idea that would be a huge improvement for me : implement a “shade” button.

I quite like the Shiki-Colors theme, it has some dark parts but the main interface elements are gray, and it’s pretty

Hey Cimi,
first of all: thanks for your great work.
You may have heard some speculations about OS X Snow Leopards look, which will be more “glassified”, “HUD”ified … similiar to the look of recent versions of iTunes or iLife…
I don’t think of HUD-designs, but the ability to give some widgets the look… (e.g. nice rounded borders with tiny reflections at the top borders, looks-like-glass gradients, reflections).
Just give a little bling-bling to the GTK-World.

Websites are all poorly coded messes. A website should obey, completely, a user’s system preferences. Facebook should blend right in with my DarkRoom theme. I don’t know what kind of greasemonkey scripts all that would require, but that’s the Right Way for that to be handled.
Some sites even define one color (background = white) and leave the foreground color to user preferences! (foreground = white). It really is quite ridiculous.

Little idea: what about a new Murrine release? The last one is from june 2007…

@Tommi:
I’m not sure about the option namings… I don’t want to break compatibility in the future

dust theme is great, just use blue in top right highlighted buttons and that’s it, a perfect usable and great theme.

@Cimi: but packages taken from SVN snapshots are very popular, what’s the real difference?

the focus glow thing for buttons instead of the ugly dotted lines (http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/node/126#comment-422)
rounded corners for menus (you say it’s allready there but … what actually has to be done to gtk+ to activate it?)
smooth hover effects (http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/node/127)
options overview / little tutorial for theme development

We need a gui program with check boxes, and input boxes for rapidly creating murrine themes..
Make the program show the theme in real time, somehow..
The program should have almost all the things you can do with a theme these days, and have them all sorted, maybe by tabs for different aspects..
Then if you wanted to get more detailed with your theme, you could just open the theme file and tweak things by hand..

Personally, I would like a Luna, Aero, and OS X theme done in Murrine, just to stop all the mediocre pixmap themes.
