https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/DustTheme - this concept received much praise on the Ubuntu Art mailing list. Someone contributed a partial implementation using the Aurora engine (because the author of the original mockup said he had it in mind). But a Murrine SVN implementation will have a much better chance of inclusion.

Implementation

The question is: do we want a 1:1 copy of this working Aurora theme or we are searching something similar but different?
We can follow both of the ways

Re: Implementation

Not 1:1, but as close as possible with current Murrine would be good. A couple of things in the mockup are clearly not doable practically (e.g. the tabs in Firefox).

I mean the rest of the

I mean the rest of the style... With proper settings, murrine's widgets (buttons, listviews etc etc) could look very similar to Auroras, but do we really want this? or we prefer other widgets/style with those colors.

Difficult to say without seeing the actual results. Can you make more than one variation? I personally like Aurora's widgets.

YES we want a 1:1 copy of

YES we want a 1:1 copy of this, not because a great theme but because an engine should be designed and modified to be as dynamic as possible and making a mockup and actually getting a theme that looks like it for gnome would be amazing, we have some really popular mockups that sadly are not possible with the current technology.

The current version of this

The current version of this theme is built with Murrine-SVN. Lots of workarounds done though (for instance, having a dark toolbar background on Firefox is a bit problematic.) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/DustTheme

You can use shadows (reliefstyle=2) and increase contrast on buttons

Ain't it a bit weird for a default wallpaper? Looks like a good entry for a ground&dirt texture collection, not for an elegant desktop. I'm glad I'll be able to change it once I upgrade ;).
Which doesn't change the fact that Ubuntu remains my favourite and beloved operating system :) I like it -- it is sharp, original, and carries on the Africa-themed look we've long expected from Ubuntu. That said, it wouldn't hurt to have a dozen theme alternatives for people who don't agree with me. (And for that matter, how about more themes installed by default for the OpenOffice presentation program?) Like it or not, eye-candy (sometimes) will sell an OS. Why not compete on a visually level playing field with the other players (and be technically superior at the same time)?

What does not change the fact that Ubuntu still my favorite and like the operating system:) I like it - it is lively, original, and Africa on the themes of the hotel, we have long waited for Ubuntu. In other words, it would not hurt, a dozen discussed alternatives for people who do not agree with me. (And for the question, as on other themes installed by default, for the presentation of Open Office?) Love or not, Eye Candy (sometimes) is an operating system for sale. Why do not compete with a visual "level playing field" with other players (and technically superior at the same time)?
